Throwback Thursdays

Me, Ezra and Carly from last summer.
Me, Ezra and Carly from last summer.

Not much to throwback here. This is one from last summer down on Fremont street on First Friday. A bunch of us went down to meet the new recruit, Carly. The rest is Grad School history.

Plus, I’m gonna have a flash short I wrote as an exercise really soon. By soon, I mean probably tomorrow.

So It’s been a while…

So much time has passed! Sorry my blog readers, I didn’t mean to abandon you! So much has happened, and yet so little. A trip to Pasadena to visit friends, and a trip to San Diego with friends (including my first trip to the San Diego Zoo)

And the new school year has started. A busy year ahead teaching Intro to Screenwriting for a second year, my TA gig is the Major Figures: Ingmar Bergman, two general Screenwriting classes, and Writing for TV to round out my week. Things are starting to roll as my students start to pitch on Monday and we’re watching Smiles of a Summer Night in the Bergman class. Time to get going on my Screenplay to workshop!

Things I’ve discovered the last month or so:

Parade’s End miniseries. Not only is it early 20th century (World War I is so hot right now), but it has Benedict Cumberbatch and Rebecca Hall. Plus a slew of supporting cast, Miranda Richardson, Rufus Sewell, Anne Marie Duff, Roger Allam, Rupert Everett, Janet McTeer. All amazing. Did I mention it’s written by Tom Stoppard, or did I have you at Cumberbatch? Definitely gonna try out the books.

Royals, Lorde. Love this song, probably will get burned out on it, but loving it right now. First time I heard it, I was pulling into The Cosmopolitan on the Strip. Perfect. Like it knew.

“Orange is the New Black’. The hype is totally true, I was completely engrossed. Great writing, plus and I don’t think I’ve ever had the opportunity to say this (which what makes the show great in another way) is I loved what they did with the transgender character. I really recommend it, but send the little ones out of the room for this one.

And finally Devdas. It’s a Bollywood film I had read about when I read Londonstani, they mention the film several times and decided to finally give it a try. It was my first Bollywood film, and I think I picked a good one. The colors were mind-blowing, choreography brilliant, costumes beautiful, and some of the shots could have been sold as pieces of art. I’m leaving you with one of the better dance numbers.

Cheers!
